Decision Over Day Centre Closures Fast-Tracked

By January 2017, the pressure mounted as it was revealed that decisions to shut 19 of the 22 day centres could be pushed through within weeks. Despite a 10,000-signature petition and widespread outcry, the council moved forward with plans to replace the centers with a single "community support service."

Rachael warned that the move would leave family carers with no respite, essentially "imprisoning" them in their homes while their loved ones lost vital social hubs.
